Esplanade Theatres by the Bay - Moonfest 2020

The annual Moonfest goes virtual this year with a line-up of fun family programmes and activities online that shed (moon)light on traditional Chinese arts and Singapore’s Chinese heritage.

Go on a virtual interactive lantern walk, watch puppetry performances, participate in a craft workshop to make your own smartphone filter, learn how to make jelly mooncakes, and many more fun things to do with the kids!

Lantern Making at Chinatown Streets

Build your own Zodiac animal character lanterns and learn to appreciate Chinese Tea in this workshop organized by the Chinatown Business Association. You'll be taking home your very own lantern in this fun cultural experience.

When: Oct 3-4 (Sat, Sun)

Time: Sessions available from 2-6pm. Each session is 45 minutes

The Graceful Swan - Lyrical Dance and Mooncake Appreciation

Dress up and join dance school The Graceful Swan for a cultural dance workshop themed around Mulan and the Mid-Autumn Festival.

You will also be writing a short poem to expand your cultural creativity.

Ages: 6-12

Mid-Autumn Festival 2020 – Gardens by the Bay

Mid-Autumn Festival 2020 returns to Gardens by the Bay! Enjoy colourful lantern displays at the outdoor gardens. The lantern sets will be lighted up daily from 7pm-10pm

From 18 Sep, look out for online programs as well such as musical and dance perfomances, snowskin mooncake demonstrations and origami lotus flower making.

Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2020

The scale of the Mid-Autumn Festival in Chinatown has been greatly reduced this year due to the COVID-19 situation.

You can still catch the street light up where 700 sculptured lanterns will line the streets of Chinatown. This year’s theme is “Family”, a core element in getting Singaporeans to unite together as one big family to overcome the challenges ahead and emerge stronger.

When: 17 Sep-16 Oct 2020

Time: 7pm-12am daily

Where: Along New Bridge Road, Eu Tong Sen Street, and South Bridge Road  

The festival also goes goes virtual this year with a whole lineup of programs. Highlights include:

  • Opening ceremony which will be livestreamed over Facebook
  • Short videos on mooncake festival traditions such as mooncake making and tea appreciation
  • Online escape room
  • Lantern painting and photography competitions

Wan Qing Mid-Autumn Festival 2020 (Digital Edition)

Celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival and learn about Chinese traditions and customs from the comfort of your own home with the inaugural digital edition of the well-loved Wan Qing Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations by the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall.

Bond with your kiddos over craft tutorials, mooncake and dessert cooking workshops, storytelling sessions, lantern riddles and games, and virtual guided museum tours.

The programs will be held via the memorial hall’s facebook page.

When: 14 Sep – 11 Oct 2020

Lantern Installation – Aside from the online programs, visitors to the memorial hall can also enjoy an outdoor thematic lantern installation. Named “Rolling in Abundance”, the installation features four large roly-poly fish lanterns, making for great photo-moments under the stars.
