The Story of Studio Ghibli Exhibition makes its world premiere in Singapore

The Story of Studio Ghibli is making its world premiere in Singapore, bringing scenes, characters and settings from some of the studio’s best-loved films to Gardens by the Bay.

Spanning nearly 3,500 square metres, the exhibition features 12 life-sized recreated scenes inspired by films, including My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Howl’s Moving Castle and The Boy and the Heron.

You’ll be walking through familiar settings, standing next to Totoro at his famous bus stop or exploring the bathhouse from Spirited Away.

Step Inside the 8-Metre Spirited Away Bathhouse

One of the largest installations is the eight-metre-tall bathhouse inspired by Spirited Away.

This life-sized recreation gives fans a closer look at the iconic building before leading into its bustling boiler room.

Look out for Kamaji at work among rows of drawers, his many arms in constant motion.

Meet Totoro at the Iconic Bus Stop

Fans of My Neighbour Totoro can step into one of the film’s most recognisable scenes and stand beside Totoro at the iconic bus stop.

The recreation captures the rainy evening setting from the film, with the Cat Bus feeling as though it could arrive at any moment.

It’s also one of the exhibition’s most photo-friendly stops, so have your cameras ready before you step into the rain!

Visit Kiki’s Delivery Service Bakery

Fans of Kiki's Delivery Service can push open the wooden door of the Guchokipanya bakery, recreated from the film in careful detail. 

The cosy setting captures the atmosphere where Kiki begins her delivery journey, and makes for an engaging stop for younger visitors exploring scenes from a story they know well.

Encounter the Ohmu from Nausicaä

The exhibition also takes visitors into the world of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.

Here, you can come face-to-face with the Ohmu, one of the film’s most recognisable creatures.

The large-scale recreation offers a closer look at one of Studio Ghibli’s earlier films and its distinctive world, where the relationship between people and nature plays an important role.

There are 12 immersive scenes to explore across the 3,500-square-metre space.

Alongside My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away, Kiki’s Delivery Service and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, visitors can discover recreated settings inspired by Princess Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle and The Boy and the Heron, among other Studio Ghibli films.

The exhibition combines physical sets, multimedia installations and large-scale details to recreate familiar locations from the films.
