Malay Heritage Centre

With spaces dedicated for kids to engage in active play and exploration, The Malay Heritage Centre is a great way for children to learn about Singapore's Malay community.

Housed in a former Malay Palace, the Malay Heritage Centre (MHC) is located amidst the historic Istana Kampong Gelam, Gedung Kuning, and the surrounding Kampong Gelam district.

You'll find numerous kid friendly exhibitions and activities throughout the museum such as Adventures in Nusantara and My Babak's Studio.

The MHC showcases the rich culture and heritage of Singapore's Malay Community through interactive multimedia, special exhibitions, as well as artefacts from the National Collection and contributions from the Malay community.

Permanent Galleries

The museum has six permanent galleries, spread over two levels of the MHC.

Adventures in Nusantara

Designed for active play and exploration, Adventures in Nusantara is the MHC's first dedicated space for children aged 3-6 years old.

Featuring the story of Hang Nadim, Ali Wallace, and Wah Hakim, the space invites kids to learn more about these young characters who are part of Singapore's history but are often overlooked.

Through their stories, children will learn about Singapore's history and take away useful learning points from the characters and their experiences.

My Babak's Studio

My Bakak Studio is inspired by sisters Fauziah and Faridah Jamal's fond childhood memories of their father, a Banjarese diamond trader and jeweler.

Growing up, the sisters remember watching their father work and trying their hands at designing jewellery in his office.

Explore the studio to discover the sisters' childhood memories and get a glimpse of a typical day in the life of a diamond trader and jewellery designer.

The exhibition is suitable for children aged 3 and above.

To complement the experience, a Mini Briefcase Activity Pack can be purchased at the Visitor Services Centre.

Each pack will contain a selection of art materials as well as a pair of disposable children sized gloves.
